Head Start is a federally funded preschool program offered at no cost for qualifying families. Head Start prepares children for school by emphasizing active learning and developmentally appropriate practices. The Head Start approach to school readiness means that children are ready for school and families are ready to support their children's learning. In addition to the classroom experience, students are supported by the provision of comprehensive medical, dental, and nutritional services. Families are also assisted with social services and mental health issues, as needed.
